What is a night at the Montana Project like?
Turn up a little early to register then why not slip downstairs for a meal or drink.
We provide everything you need for a fun session. In our creative studio you’ll learn some of the basic techniques of painting with acrylics on canvas, using stencils, painting ceramics, distressing and painting jeans and fabric, or drawing on Perspex depending on your choice of session.
We have developed techniques that allow a great deal of room for self expression whilst ensuring an end result you will be proud of. Follow our instructions to the tee, or go off the reservation and go wild, you decide.
What is included in the cost of the session?
The price per seat includes everything you’ll need for the session as well as a flute of sparkling on arrival. If you are painting a stencil project, you will be painting a large, double thick 600x760mm canvas which you will take home; if you are doing paint pouring you will take home 2 canvases, 250x300mm each.
What time should I arrive and how long are the sessions?
Our nightly sessions start at 6.30pm, and our Sunday afternoon session starts at 12pm.
We recommend that you arrive about 10-15 minutes early to slip down to the bottleshop on the corner or order any food you may want from the Montague Hotel below us.
At 6.30pm we all head up into our studio to get suited up, enjoy your free glass of sparkling and get seated together with your friends.
Each session runs approximately two and a half to possibly three hours.
Can we sit together?
Of course you can!
At the beginning of each class we play human tetris and get all the various groups seated together.
What do I wear to a night at the Montana Project?
Wear something that you feel comfortable in. We will provide aprons to protect your clothes from paint, but best to wear something you don’t mind getting a the odd bit of paint on – just in case!
Do I have to paint the same thing as the artist that evening?
Yes. And No. If the painting uses a stencil, you will be free to interpret the color used and the background painting how ever you like. If we are doing say ceramics you can work away with your own project and we will glaze the items ready for collection later on. This is the beauty of the Montana Project approach; you are free to get wild on the background and the stencil pulls it all together at the end.
What if I need to cancel my booking?
Your booking is non-refundable.
However, on your ticket email comes a link to ‘manage your booking’ and via that link you can change to a different class for a $10 fee. You are able to do this up until the day before your ticketed event.
Can I purchase wine or beer at the Montana Project?
This is the great part: we are located right over the Montague Hotel, so a full restaurant and bar is right down stairs. The upstairs room that we occupy is not licensed, so all alcohol purchased in the Monty must be consumed downstairs. That isn’t a problem, as upstairs we are BYO wine and Beer. PLUS! All standard bookings include a free glass of sparkling from the Montague hotel on arrival!
Are children allowed at the events?
YES!! One of the upsides of the area not being licensed is that younger participants can attend. As a guide your children should be 9 years or older and MUST be accompanied by an adult. If your child is younger than 9 and you think they can sit and follow the instructions then we are happy to talk to you about exceptions to the 9 year limit.
Can I host a private party or function at the Montana Project?
The Montana Project is the perfect atmosphere for your next party or corporate event. Click on the ‘Private Events’ tab for all the low down.
May we BYO our own food?
The good news is that the Monty has an awesome restaurant and you can order up finger food during the sessions. We do ask that you don’t bring your own nibbles though.
